Urban City Retreat with Stephen and Martin Bachelor - Self, Consciousness and Namarupa

מפגשי הבוקר בריטריט העירוני עם סטיבן בצ'לור, יתמקדו בשאלת הזהות העצמית בהגות הבודהיסטית. בשונה מהתפיסה המקובלת, הרואה את הבודהה כמי שלימד ש"אין-אני", ניווכח כי דרשות הבודהה מתוך הקנון הפאלי, מציעות תפיסה עדינה ומורכבת הרבה יותר של רעיון זה. סטיבן בצ'לור יטען שהבודהה ראה את "העצמי" כפרויקט בלתי נגמר שיש להבין, ולא כמכשול שיש להתגבר עליו. הנושא המרכזי בחקירה זו יהיה הבנת הקשר בין "תודעה" (vinnana) ו"גופניות-נפשיות" (nama-rupa). הריטריט יכלול מדיטציה, שיחות ודיונים.

על מנת להשתתף במפגשי הבוקר יש להרשם מראש ולהתחייב להגיע לכל המפגשים, מאחר וכל מפגש יהווה בסיס למפגש שאחריו. מי שמסיבה כלשהו אינו יכול להגיע לאחר מהימים, יתבקש להקשיב לשיחות המוקלטות של סטיבן בצ'לור.

Self, Consciousness and Namarupa

  This urban retreat will focus on the question of personal identity in Buddhism. Contrary to the widespread idea that the Buddha taught there was no self, we will look at sutta texts from the Pali Canon that suggest a far more nuanced and complex approach to the issue. I will argue that the Buddha saw the self as an unfinished project to be realized rather than an obstacle to be transcended. Key to this analysis will be a consideration of the relation between vinnana (consciousness) and namarupa (name-form). Time will be divided between meditation, talks and discussion.
