Sitting Group for Social Activists

Activism brings us face to face with the other, with suffering, with guilt feelings; with the racism that perhaps also exists within ourselves; with our willingness to benefit others and a sense of responsibility for the suffering we encounter. Activism often challenges pre-existing conceptions that we may hold about reality and about ourselves. It may give rise to a sense of helplessness, but at the same time may also empower us as well as others and strengthen our faith that change is possible.

The Engaged Dharma sitting group offers itself as a safe, supportive space for contemplating and discussing together the nature of activism and the questions and feelings it gives rise to. The group meets once every other Thursday at the Sangha House and is facilitated alternately by Reni Ovadia, Asaf Kedar, Keren Dahan and other practitioners of Engaged Dharma in Israel. In the meetings we encourage open and candid conversation and the sharing of personal experiences from the participants' encounter with the field.

The group is open to activists who practice the Dharma in any framework or community, as well as to Dharma practitioners interested in becoming involved in activism. Participants are not required to commit themselves to any fixed number of meetings.

Prior to arrival, please contact Asaf by phone ( 054-5829103 ) or by email (asaf.kedar@gmail.com) to make sure that the meeting is taking place that week.

Registration will be opened few weeks before the event
