Foundations of meditation and Buddhist wisdom

A short introductory course with Eran Herpaz

Sundays, 19:00-21:00 (starting 16.11.2014) at 'Meshiv Nefesh' center, Klil

Background

Buddhist wisdom ("Dharma") confronts u with the fact that restlessness and unsatisfactoriness are a significant part of the human experience. The Dharma also shows that there is freedom from the restlessness and unsatisfactoriness. By cultivating wisdom and compassion, a responsible moral conduct and meditative investigation, the Dharma leads us to expose misguided and misleading prejudice that lies at the basis of our thoughts, and helps us to develop a free and compassionate way of life.

The course is 8 session long, and meant for people who are relatively new to the world of meditation and the Buddhist way of thinking.

Participation has to include the practice of meditation at home - the course is meant to help students develop a daily meditation practice, which is an integral part of the process.

Eran

I first met the Buddhist wisdom in 1991, studying philosophy in TA university. Later on I was exposed to the world of meditation while living in Australia. Something in me was deeply touched. Questions of meaning, of life and death, got words and became legitimate. I found myself continuing for years with long periods of silence in monastries and meditation centers in India and other places in the world as the center of my life, studying the art of meditation and Buddhist wisdom, deep into the self and into being. Different teachers, from east and west, have been my guide, with the dear and beloved Christopher Titmus - one of the most important Dharma teacher in the west, above all.

These teachings and practiced changed my life. The right to be who I am. The right to acknowledge the flaws that characterize so many stories we've been told about life: What's important, what brings happiness, and is happiness anyway...?

I've also come to know how being acquainted with these teachings and practice changes the lives of many many others that I've met throughout the years.

Since my return to Israel, in the beginning of the previous decade, I also share and teach the way: In meditation courses, weekends, workshops, meditation groups, MBSR, personal guidance, translation and writing.

My emphasis in teaching is on contemporary commentary for the ancient wisdom, to the relevance of Dharma in our lives, here and now.
