The format

This course is differentfroma meditation-retreat; it isnotmeant to be an introduction to meditation. The emphasis during our daily meetings willnotbe strictsilence and formal meditation: While therewillbe some formalsitting meditation on each day for shortperiods, the major emphasis is given to afacilitated, collective inquiryinto the teachings, the skilful means of their practice  and how to dealwith obstructions to such practice in our everyday lives. The topics of understanding and

meeting challenges to practice of meditation and Dharma,  willbe considered fromboth scripturaland psychologicalvantage points – always with a view to make our everyday life situations and their challenges the practice-maṇḍala for discerning insightand compassionate activity. We practice during the day in our work and daily activities and meet in the evenings to investigate, contemplate and listen to others.Teaching willbe in English with Hebrew translationswhere necessary.(No consequetive Hebrew teaching is intended – understanding of conversational English is needed.)

The week

We start the week of everyday practice with an afternoon dedicated to an introduction into the topic of psychologicalgrowth and spiritualdevelopmentand how to recognize both their differences and convergences in our experience. I willprovide background and contextfromBuddhistpractice traditions and Buddhistpsychology – this willhappen in ways thatare also accessible to people with little formalknowledge in Buddhist teachings. The week ends with a similar gathering – this time dedicated to a review of the ground and the practial tools covered and a vision of how to move on fromhere. The five evenings in between will, after a short initial meditation, be given to afacilitated and respectfuldialogue focused on a particular accentof the general topicI willspecify as we move through the days. It is intended that in the course of our gatherings we scrutinize the challenges and opportunities in growing psychologically and spiritually and pool the resources for practicalhelp in liberating the heart.
